Concept of CinéDOC-Tbilisi

CinéDOC-Tbilisi is the main international documentary film festival of the Caucasus region. The festival’s first seven editions took place from 2013 to 2019. The eighth edition of the festival will take place from 23-27 April, 2020 in the cinemas Amirani and Cinema House.

CinéDOC-Tbilisi is the first film festival in Georgia to be supported by the Creative Europe Programme of the European Union and is followed by a year-long screening tour in all regions of Georgia, in the framework of CinéDOC-On Tour.

The audience attending CinéDOC-Tbilisi screenings has the chance to view a variety of documentary films with a unique directing vision, an original visual style, sympathetic protagonists and powerful stories. The film screenings are followed by Q&A sessions and debates with the invited filmmakers, master classes with renowned film professionals, open sessions with international guests.

The festival also presents local and regional productions in the competitive section “Focus Caucasus” with documentaries selected from the following countries: Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Russia, Turkey.

Moreover, each year, the documentary culture and documentary film industry of one particular country is highlighted in the side section: Guest Country. This year films from Finland will be presented.

Moreover, we organize workshops and industry meetings for young documentary filmmakers and producers. We invite experienced documentary professionals from all over the world to attend project development and presentation sessions in Tbilisi. Some of the invited experts who’ve attended our industry sections were: Katja Wildermuth (commissioning editor, MDR), Paul Pauwels (director EDN), Simone Baumann (producer, Germany), Luciano Barisone (festival director), Emilie Kleinmann (Arte, France), Uldis Cekulis (producer, Latvia), Isabel Arrate Fernandez (IDFA Bertha Fund), Tue Steen Mueller (documentary expert, Denmark), Peter Symes (producer, UK), Hans Robert Eisenhauer (producer, Germany), etc.

Last but not least, we organize screenings for children and teenagers through our CinéDOC-Young program and showcase films throughout Georgia in the framework of CinéDOC on Tour.
